First Sprouts

After a few days, the first sprouts of the seedlings have popped up. This group is a mixture of flowers and vegetables. I still have a few more seeds I want to start indoors. Each row is a different seed and it is fun to see which seeds sprout in what order. The Cardinal Climber Flower was the first to come up, followed by the Outhouse Hollyhock and Brunswick Cabbage. Over half still have to come up.
Now if I can keep Queequeg from flattening them, we should have a nice crop to plant outdoors in a few weeks. Quee has a history of flattening and chomping new plants. Hopefully I can negotiate a cease fire...

I have all my seedlings in a shut room. My cat tends to eat them. I should take a picture of mine. Maybe tomorrow.

yay for seedlings--can't blame the kitty for wanting to share in the first tasty bites of spring. just thinking about upcoming spring lettuce makes me hungry!

I think if you put the peels from pretty much any citrus fruit around your sprouts it'll keep curious kitties away, as the don't like the smell. :)

p.s. Did you catch the alliteration there? haha.

Ah, nice! We have a bunch of flats going - 6 so far, and a few more this week. I love the smell of the soil when the lights are on - ahhh. Our cat can't get to our trays, luckily...we have setup #1 in the basement to start the seeds, and setup #2 in an upstairs room for seedling to transplant. She'd love a taste, I'm sure! ;)

This year, we didn't really have a good place to put the seedlings that was "Quee-Free" and good sunlight. So they are set up in our Kitchen on our partial kitchen cabinets, since we are in the middle of a long remodel of that room and it's semi-functioning. I think next year, we'll have to set up a different area and may use lights.
Jamie and Rachel, thanks for the tip on the citrus, I might have to try that. I'll sprinkle her with lemon zest.
And Rachel, no piggies... (yet) :-P

Yea! I am happy your seeds are coming up! I am also madly in love with those cardinal climber flowers! I'll have to order some.

Hey, when I pick my flowers and bring them inside to photograph them as still life, I have to put the flower vases in the shower to hide them from our inside cats. They like to play with my flowers!
